Anyone that knows me well knows that I eat, sleep and breathe music. I have for as long as I can remember. What can I say? Dad was a DJ and mom is great on the piano. I’m probably a below average player on bass and guitar but it doesn’t stop me from trying. I’ve worked in record stores from North Carolina to the UK and was a radio DJ myself for a few years. As evidenced by several previous blog posts and even a (neglected) separate website, I’m always stoked to photograph bands- live or otherwise.
Recently I’ve had the good fortune to photograph two great bands here in my studio. Up top is a photo of Jenny Besetzt– you may recognize the name from another post (I made a short promo video for one of the songs from their upcoming album). No, there’s no Jenny in the band- if you do a little digging you can find out more about them. Look for their new album soon.
Some Army is another great band that I could see making a big splash when the new album drops in the next few months. Check out some great tunes here.
I tried to push myself out of my comfort zone on both of these shoots, working with experimental lighting styles and different post-production techniques than I normally use.
In a perfect world both of these bands would be killing it on college radio (at least) and I’d be shooting even more bands and making music videos.
I’m working on it.
